Mobile Access Inc. will provide software for laptop computers for the city’s Police Department under a $170,915 contract awarded recently by the City Council. The project is part of a federal grant program to enhance police services.

The city is expected to receive about $1.2 million in federal COPS MORE ’98 funds, a U.S. Department of Justice program. The laptops, which were approved under a separate action Aug. 2, will allow patrol officers to access criminal information from their squad cars.
