Darryl Hamilton didn’t exactly tear it up in his return to Coors Field. His timing, however, couldn’t have been much better.

Hamilton, traded from Colorado to New York on July 31 and 0 for 6 in the first two games of the series, had two hits, including a run-scoring triple that broke a tie in the eighth inning, as the New York Mets continued their playoff push with a 10-5 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday.

The Mets, who have won nine of their last 12 games, moved within one game of the Atlanta Braves in the NL East. New York stayed 2 1/2 games ahead of Cincinnati in the wild-card race.

Turk Wendell (5-4) earned the victory in relief of Orel Hershiser as New York finished its seven-game trip 5-2.

Jerry Dipoto (4-5) was the loser.
