Chamber Endorses 2 on School Board

The Ventura Chamber of Commerce’s Political Action Committee has endorsed two incumbents seeking reelection to the school board.

Debbie Golden and Jim Wells were backed by the panel after submitting written questionnaires, participating in a public forum and being interviewed by the committee.

A third candidate for the Ventura Unified School District, John Gennaro, a retired teacher who worked in the district for 33 years, did not win an endorsement.

“We felt that all three candidates were qualified to serve on the school board,” said attorney Bart Bleuel, the committee’s chairman.

Bleuel said the two incumbents have done a good job, particularly in light of the school district’s previous financial problems, and have helped to restore the district to fiscally responsible management.

But the chamber committee put off until Tuesday announcing its endorsement of three of the 12 candidates in the upcoming Ventura City Council race. Bleuel said the committee has agreed on two candidates but remains deadlocked on the third.
