Woman Dead, Child Hurt in Freeway Crash
A woman was fatally injured and a child seriously burned in a traffic accident late Friday on the southbound Antelope Valley Freeway south of Escondido Canyon Road.
Authorities were not certain if the woman died from injuries in the accident or in a fire immediately after that fully engulfed the vehicle, said Officer Richard Perez of the California Highway Patrol.
The child was pulled from the vehicle and transported by helicopter to Providence Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills.
All lanes of the freeway were closed shortly after the 8:47 p.m. accident to allow the medical evacuation.
