Longtime county resident Dora L. Kindred died Wednesday at a Ventura hospital after a brief illness. She was 75.

Kindred moved to Ventura County in 1925 and lived in Ventura for 70 years before relocating to Santa Barbara in 1995.

She was born Jan. 2, 1924, in Meeker, Colo., and was a graduate of Ventura High School and Ventura College.

Kindred was a Girl Scout leader for many years and was an honorary life member and past president of the PTA at Montalvo School in Ventura. She also helped start the school’s library.

Kindred’s family described her as an accomplished seamstress and generous volunteer who was devoted to her family and community.

Her husband of 33 years, Walter Kindred, died in 1981.

She is survived by daughters Patricia Kindred of Ventura and Margaret Holbrook of Santa Barbara; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; her sister, Rose Morgan, of Colorado; and several nieces.

There will be a graveside service at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Ventura with the Rev. Jim Maxson of the Oxnard Baptist Church officiating.

Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura is handling the arrangements.
