Belmont Center Audit Report

Share

Re “Investigator Calls for Staff Penalties in Belmont Case,” Sept. 15: The Los Angeles Unified School District audit is not a surprise to anyone who has followed the district or the Belmont school fiasco. Now, however, we have facts to back up what we have always believed: The LAUSD and its board have put their own interests ahead of our children.

Many of us feel that we should “throw the bums out,” but perhaps that has already begun with the school board elections earlier this year. I only hope the new board realizes how little faith and trust we have in them. Certainly, those named in the audit should never again be allowed to make a decision on behalf of the LAUSD. I do hope this audit is reflected in Supt. Ruben Zacarias’ performance appraisal. His excuse that he was kept out of the loop smacks of ignorance or an ostrich-like mentality.

The sooner we get rid of this petty political culture and put the business of educating our children as the highest priority, the better. Perhaps, someday, the name LAUSD will be met with respect.

Since no one in the LAUSD will take responsibility, why don’t the staff all move to Belmont and convert the headquarters offices on Grand to the new high school? Let the staff members live with their decisions, not the kids!

The LAUSD needs to add a fourth R to education’s readin’, ‘ritin’ and ‘rithmetic: responsibility.
