The city recently tabled a request by the Seattle-based Starbucks coffeehouse chain to open a shop at Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway.

At the last Planning Commission meeting, several residents spoke against the architectural plan for a 1,000-square-foot shop, arguing that the city already has coffeehouses on Main Street and that the addition of a Starbucks would be an aesthetic challenge in an area considered the “gateway” to the city.

The Planning Commission will continue the discussion at its next meeting in October, but a date for the public hearing has not yet determined, Planning Commissioner Lee Whittenberg said.
