Christmas Parade to Be Held Nov. 20

The Pacific View mall and the Ventura Elks Lodge are planning a Christmas parade for Nov. 20 to start the holiday season with a bang.

The parade will likely travel the one-mile distance from the corner of Loma Vista Road and Purdue Avenue to the Pacific View mall on Main Street and South Mills Road.

“We are imagining this as having the same concept as the Macy’s parade in New York,” said Bob Cornett, the parade chairman for the Ventura Elks Lodge. “It will kick off the holiday season and be the introduction of Santa for the kids. This is a long-range opportunity and important for the community.”

The parade’s theme will be “Holiday Tradition, Ventura Style” and organizers hope to have 100 elements in seven categories--color guards, bands, equestrian, floats, antique and classical automobiles, and miscellaneous. Trophies will be awarded in each category. Santa Claus will serve as grand marshal.

“We want to pick up where the much-loved Candy Cane Lane tradition left off several years ago,” said Cayse Osterlund, Pacific View general manager. Entry forms for participation must be submitted by Nov. 1. To obtain an entry form or find out more information, contact Bob Cornett at 642-4086.
