The Duck lineup appeared to be set for about the last week or so, if not in stone then at least in the sand well above the high-water mark at the beach.

But Pierre Gauthier, team president and general manager, messed it all up Monday by acquiring right wing Ladislav Kohn from the expansion Atlanta Thrashers for an eighth-round pick in the 2000 entry draft.

Kohn, taken by Atlanta from the Toronto Maple Leafs in Monday’s waiver draft, will join the Ducks as soon as today. He will start the season with the Ducks, adding to their skill and depth up front.

“There’s a job here for him,” Gauthier said of Kohn, who is 5 feet 11 and weighs 190 pounds. “It’s up to him to grab the opportunity. . . . Now, we have another player who can put points on the board.”

Kohn, 24, from the Czech Republic, played 18 games, including two in the playoffs, last season for Toronto. He had one goal and four points.

“We felt we wanted to add another player with an offensive dimension to the crew we already have here,” Gauthier said.

The Ducks also picked Ladislav Benysek in the waiver draft. Benysek, a defenseman from the Edmonton Oilers, will play in his native Czech Republic this season, but is expected to attend the Ducks’ training camp next year.

In their last exhibition game, the Ducks lost, 3-2, to the Colorado Avalanche, which closed the door on McNichols Arena. The Avalanche and the NBA’s Denver Nuggets move into the new Pepsi Center next month. . . . The Ducks open the regular season Saturday at Dallas.
