‘Cinderella’ Star Buys a Castle

Brandy, the Grammy-winning singer and actress who stars in the UPN series “Moesha,” has purchased a home in the Calabasas area for about $1.8 million.

The 20-year-old superstar bought a newly built, 7,200-square-foot house with six bedrooms and a pool in a gated community.

Brandy, also a model, produced and starred opposite Diana Ross this year in the ABC-TV movie “Double Platinum,” and she performed with Cher, Tina Turner and Whitney Houston in “VH1 Divas Live ’99.”

After “Moesha” debuted in 1996, Brandy starred in the ABC remake of “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella” (1997) and appeared in the movie “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” (1998).

She won a Grammy this year for her R&B; performance in the duet “The Boy Is Mine,” which she sang with Monica.

Loretta Swit, who played Major Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan on the CBS series “M*A*S*H*” (1972-83), has sold her Malibu home for $1.4 million.

The Emmy-winning actress, who is about 60, hosted “Those Incredible Animals” on the Discovery Channel during the early ‘90s.

She had lived in her Malibu home since the ‘70s. The house, which is on the water, has two bedrooms in 2,000 square feet and was built in the 1940s. Swit updated the house.

The buyer, who is the chief executive of a California linen company, was represented by Ernest Carswell of Coldwell Banker, Beverly Hills, while Nancy and Marcus Beck of the same company in Malibu had the listing, records show.

Michael Gleason, a veteran TV writer-producer who has been writing for the series “Charmed” and “Martial Law,” has listed his Encino home of 20 years at about $2 million.

Gleason, who is now in his early 60s, wrote such series as “Police Academy” (1997-98), “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” (1996-97), “Diagnosis Murder” (1994-95), which he also produced, and “Remington Steele” (1982-87).

In April, four years to the day after he met her on a cruise, Gleason married his wife, Jan. Now they plan to downsize.

Six of Gleason’s eight children were raised in the gated 9,000-square-foot home.

Built in 1981, the home, on an acre, has a pool and valley views. It also has four bedroom suites, including a master with two fireplaces; staff quarters; a projection room, billiard room, sauna, steam shower, two spas and a wine cellar.
