Fear of ‘Flyovers’

Share

* Isn’t it strange how after severe earthquakes in Turkey, Greece and Taiwan, Caltrans still plans to go ahead and build “flyover” ramps three levels high for pool lanes at Bristol Street and the San Diego Freeway? It’s not just the people on top who are at risk in an earthquake, but also those below. In California, we should be building roads on the ground with the fewest possible overpasses. Pool lanes, the source of so much of expensive interchange complexity, should be eliminated in favor of zero-pollution cars and more lanes for general use, since most citizens (who pay for the roads) have no work-related opportunity to participate in carpooling.
