Sarahjane Reese, a Ventura College student and also in her fourth year on the board, was elected vice president. The president’s job includes keeping the group on track, running meetings and assigning board member jobs.

“It’s a neat cross-section of kids,” said Teri Raley, one of four Junior Fair Board advisors. “We see kids start out quiet and end up taking on leadership roles.”

The board, which was developed in the early 1970s, plans and produces many of the county fair’s popular events, including the Diaper Derby, the pie-eating contest, egg-toss contests and even hog calling. The Junior Fair Board members also act as ambassadors for Seaside Park throughout the year, serving as information officers and hosting annual events.
