The Los Angeles Symphonic Winds will perform Friday evening. Formerly known as the Pierce College Symphonic Band, the ensemble now includes more than 90 musicians from Los Angeles. Friday’s program will include pieces by Verdi, Cavallini, Berlioz and Sousa.

Christian Music

Contemporary Christian music artist Carman performs Saturday at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia. He will be playing songs from his album “Passion for Praise, Vol. 1,” including “Awesome God” and “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High.” Tickets to Carman’s concert will be $3 in addition to the regular park admission and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Chamber Music

The Music Guild of Los Angeles will present the Peabody Piano Trio performing Monday at Cal State Northridge. Formed in 1986 in San Francisco, the trio won chamber music’s top prize, the Naumburg Award, in 1989. Monday’s program will include pieces by Beethoven, Schumann and Dvorak.

Big Band

Before he served 32 years on the Los Angeles City Council, Ernani Bernardi was a jazz musician and bandleader. In the 1930s and ‘40s, Bernardi was a lead saxophonist and arranger for some of the great ensembles of the big band era, including those headed by Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Jimmy Dorsey, Bob Crosby and Kay Kyser. The 88-year-old Bernardi will conduct his The Way It Was Orchestra at a swing dance party.
