Fresno Official to Head Schools in Las Vegas

Fresno schools chief Carlos Garcia has been named the new superintendent of the Clark County School District, the nation’s eighth largest.

Garcia, 48, is a Los Angeles native. The Fresno district he now runs is the fourth largest in California, with 79,000 students.

In Las Vegas, Garcia will be superintendent of a fast-growing district of 217,000 students.

He was named Thursday to replace Supt. Brian Cram, who is retiring in July after 11 years as schools chief.
