Remember when Boy George just missed being crushed by a disco mirror ball in a London club last fall? So does he. So, naturally, he was concerned to learn that the White Party, a gay-oriented dance event he was booked to DJ in Palm Springs on April 21, would feature what is being described as the world’s largest disco ball. He’s keeping the gig, but only with the contractual agreement from promoter Jeffrey Sanker that the ball be kept at least 50 feet away from Boy. . . .

The folks behind “Heavy Metal 2000,” the long-coming sequel to the ‘70s animated film “Heavy Metal,” have declared April 18 Heavy Metal Day in Los Angeles, with a signing of the soundtrack CD at the Golden Apple comics store on Melrose Avenue scheduled to feature the film’s creators and some of the musical performers. Among those contributing new songs for the film are Pantera, Insane Clown Posse, System of a Down, Days of the New, Queens of the Stone Age and Bauhaus, whose “The Dog’s a Vapour” is the Goth trio’s first new track in 17 years. . . .

A new song by Jaguares, produced by ex-Police drummer Stewart Copeland, is being added as the lone rock en espan~ol entry on the “Mission Impossible 2” soundtrack, which will also feature such U.S. bands as Metallica and Foo Fighters. Jaguares also play the House of Blues next Sunday and April 19. *
