Schools to Host Storytelling Events

Earth Day and Multicultural Day activities will be marked with special storytelling programs on Tuesday and Wednesday in Ventura County.

Jim Woodard, a storyteller-writer from Ventura, will present a program of 20 Earth Day-appropriate stories at Berylwood Elementary School in Simi Valley on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m.

The program will include the popular fable “The Giving Tree,” written by the late Shel Silverstein. Another featured fable was written by a Ventura County teenage boy.

A Multicultural Day storytelling program will be held at Moorpark College on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the college library. This program will center on the theme “Folktales From Around the World.”

Another storytelling program is set for Pinecrest Elementary School in Thousand Oaks on April 19 beginning at 1:45 p.m. It features the story of the California Gold Rush.

Woodard started his storytelling activities as a counselor at Boys Town in Nebraska. For the past five years, he has been the resident storyteller at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley.
