The one thing people think they know about the Avengers is that their billboard writers must be moonlighting as Playboy staffers.

But those desiring to learn more about the Arena Football League’s expansion franchise can go to its Web site.

After a grandiose opening--a black screen that flashes a football helmet and messages such as “blood, sweat and no tears,” “football is back in L.A.,” and “claim your turf,” the Avenger home page is filled with news releases documenting the team’s birth and development.

You can find out the backgrounds of Coach Stan Brock and his staff; who was selected in the expansion draft; a photo gallery from the team’s open house in January; when former Trojan and Raider Todd Marinovich signed; that season tickets are going fast; or that it was chosen as the league’s best Web site during the AFL meetings in December.

You can order your Avenger hats (sorry, the wool black baseball cap is sold out), shirts, jackets and lapel pins to be ready for the regular-season home opener April 20.

You can even learn the name of the dance team--”A-Team.”

What you won’t find are a roster or stats of the players--who were either on different teams last year or are AFL rookies.

Hey, they had to leave you wanting more.
