Hiker Finds Way to Safety After Night in the Forest
A South Pasadena hiker found her way to safety Tuesday after spending the night in Angeles National Forest because she got lost in the wilderness.
Angela Montes, 46, found her way to a campground and used a pay phone to call her family shortly before 1:30 p.m. as rescue teams and helicopters combed the forest searching for her. She told reporters that her greatest fear was an attack by wild animals.
Montes informed her boyfriend and mother Monday afternoon that she was going hiking in the forest, sheriff deputies said. Then she called the Sheriff’s Department for help on her cellular phone about 10:15 p.m. and briefly talked to officials before losing contact, according to Sheriff’s Deputy Joseph Ruggiero.
