A waste facility on Western Avenue in a few weeks will begin construction of a device for breaking down malodorous compounds. Vice President Paul Rellis of CR&R; said the device--called a biofilter--will pump air from inside CR&R;’s facility through a series of pipes leading to an underground area containing materials such as wood chips and grass clippings. These materials will support the generation of bacteria capable of breaking down odors that have aggravated residents around CR&R; during hot summer days.
