* Film Screening--The Alex Film Society will screen Orson Welles’ classic “Citizen Kane” on the big screen Saturday at the Alex Theatre in Glendale. An evening screening will also feature a discussion between film historians Leonard Maltin and Phil Hardy on why this film is usually considered one of the best ever made, although it didn’t win the Oscar for best picture. Produced by RKO in 1941, “Citizen Kane” was Welles’ first film, which he made at age 25. It received nine Oscar nominations, among them those for best picture, best actor (Welles), best director (Welles) and best original screenplay (Welles and Herman Mankiewicz). * Afro-Latin Music--The award-winning Afro-Latin band Sol y Canto will play Saturday at the University Student Union on campus at Cal State Northridge. Brian Amador’s guitar and Rosi Amador’s vocals provide the framework for the group’s repertoire, which includes tender ballads and vibrant dance tunes in a variety of Latin musical styles. The Boston-based group has performed at the White House, the Kennedy Center and the Philadelphia Art Museum. The campus is at 18111 Nordhoff St. Show time: 8 p.m. $5-$15. (818) 677-2488.

* Chamber Music--Exploring the music of the great 18th and 19th century composers, the Burbank Chamber Orchestra will perform Saturday at the Hall of Liberty at Forest Lawn. The program: Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony; Robert Schumann’s Concerto for Cello; and Mozart’s Overture to “Don Giovanni.” Music director Steven Kerstein will conduct, and Steven Richards will be the cello soloist. * Humor--Spalding Gray brings his latest monologue, “Morning, Noon and Night,” to the Alex Theatre in Glendale on Sunday. Gray is the performer-creator of such works as “Swimming to Cambodia” and “Monster in a Box.” His newest piece covers some of the events of one day in his life with his family living on New York’s eastern Long Island.
