Rest Up for Shopping at Mattress Warehouse

SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

According to Webster, a bargain is “an advantageous purchase.” Not cheap, but advantageous. One can track a bargain on a Rolls-Royce or a Geo. The better price on the Rolls is still a bargain but definitely not cheap.

So for those in the market for one of the top brands of mattresses, I discovered the Beacon Mattress Warehouses. Some prices at Beacon did not reflect huge reductions but certainly enough to make it a worthwhile lead. And some of the extras offered add to the value.

Here, a “set” means the mattress, the box spring, a mattress cover and two pillows, plus free delivery (within 30 miles on most items), setup and removal of the old mattress.

The Rip Van Winkle model from Aireloom in a queen size was an excellent buy at $999, when other retailers ask about $1,400.

From Stearns & Foster, a Summerdale pillow-top set in a king was a good buy at $2,249, certainly not cheap for a mattress but a better deal than most.

For those holding tighter purse strings, some queen-size pillow-top sets at $199 with a 12-year warranty are tempting.

Roger Stuart, a manufacturer of fine men’s apparel, opens its doors to the general public once a year for a sale with prices below wholesale. Suits made in Italy of fine fabrics that would retail for about $1,400 are going for $349, and sports coats that would sell for $695 are $199. The sale goes through April 23.
