“Wildlife Refuge Faces Investigation of Pollution,” April 10.
It is a disgrace that Mervin Hee, with the state Department of Fish and Game, has nothing better to do than harass Wildlife Waystation for rescuing animals and giving them a safe haven for the rest of their natural lives--a monster of a humanitarian effort. I suggest Hee’s time [could] be better spent tracking down and prosecuting the animals’ previous owners whose irresponsibility has caused traumatized suffering, often terrible neglect and cruelty and is the very reason Wildlife Waystation exists at all.
Shame on you, Department of Fish and Game.

I can no longer be silent about the rush to judgment that is taking place . . . at the Wildlife Waystation. As a member volunteer, some of the most meaningful moments of my life were spent hand-feeding and cleaning just a few of the orphaned native wildlife so tragically prevalent at this time of year.
As a nurse, I can assure the world that conditions for these creatures could not have been better. Strict sanitary methods were tightly enforced. A tub of bleach had to be stepped into upon entering and leaving what is lovingly known as the “batmobile”--ground zero for everything from pinky size hummingbirds to possums.
The volunteers at the waystation are true heroes who are humble and work harder than anyone I have ever seen, for no reason except that they know the fate of these animals depends on their presence.
To allow this true sanctuary to close is truly an injustice. Whatever problems exist can easily be solved. Love for our fellow man can never come if we do not practice love for all life.
