Los Alamitos first baseman Nick Fitzgerald, the Sunset League MVP last season, said he has signed with Cal State Fullerton.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound senior is hitting .435 with 20 runs batted in, 21 walks and only two strikeouts. He was a second team All-Southern Section selection last season.

Playing the final 35 minutes short-handed, the Orange County Waves defeated the Boston Bulldogs, 2-1, in an A-League soccer game Sunday in front of 885 at Santa Ana Stadium.

Gustavo Leal scored in the 56th minute off an assist from Jason Boyce for the Waves (1-1) after Orange County’s Jose Vasquez received a red card and was ejected in the 55th minute for committing a dangerous tackle.

Steve Patterson scored a first-half goal for the Waves, but Boston’s Steve Grant scored in the 46th minute to pull the Bulldogs even, 1-1.
