The New Beverly will show a double feature from Japanese writer-director Hayao Miyazaki, one of the great artists of contemporary animation. The films are “Princess Mononoke,” an ecological-themed fairy tale (this is the English-language version with voices by Minnie Driver, Billy Crudup and Claire Danes) and “The Castle of Cagliostro,” a 1979 mystery with a screwball twist.

Sinatra is gone but his sound lives on among select devotees, among them vocalist-guitarist Vic Feniello, who’ll join with pianist Jerry Harrison, an accompanist whose credits include Billie Holiday, in Monteleone’s cozy old-school supper-club lounge, the sort of place that Ol’ Blue Eyes himself would surely approve of. For three decades plus, the Holy Modal Rounders have been twisting the roots of American folk music into fanciful, psychedelic shapes. The stubbornly idiosyncratic team of Peter Stampfel and Steve Weber has sustained its cult following through lean times and recently reemerged with its first album in 20 years, “Too Much Fun.”

McCoy Tyner, the bedrock-solid pianist who was a member of John Coltrane’s groundbreaking ‘60s quartet, has been a leading figure in the jazz world since striking out on his own some 35 years ago. Here he leads his equally solid trio with bassist Avery Sharpe and drummer Aaron Scott on the last night of a five-night engagement.

The Silent Movie Theatre is presenting an All-Star Comedy Weekend with short films from silent-era legends Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd, Buster Keaton, Charley Chase and Laurel & Hardy including “The Rink” (1916), “Number Please” (1920), “The Goat” (1921), “What Price Goofy” (1925) and “Liberty” (1929).

Director Jules Aaron, whose hit staging of Stephen Sondheim’s “Merrily We Roll Along” is still rolling along at the West Coast Ensemble, now digs into another classic: “The Philadelphia Story.” Made famous as a vehicle for Katherine Hepburn on stage and screen, this version opening Friday at the Court Theatre stars Alison Eastwood as the socialite divorcee whose second wedding is disrupted by her ex-husband and a tabloid reporter.
