SAN CLEMENTE
The top 40 surfers in the world are expected to participate in the Billabong Pro at various local beaches this fall.
The event, scheduled for Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, is expected to draw 5,000 to 10,000 spectators a day, said Lynn Hughes, the city’s marine safety captain.
The City Council has approved a conceptual permit for the event and will make a final decision on the details next month.
The city will hold a workshop May 1 to address concerns about traffic, parking and other issues.
