Car Crashes at School

Share

A 30-year-old man drove his burning car--packed with canisters of propane and gasoline--through the locked gates of Rosemead High School on Friday and toward a group of students, stopping only when his car hit a pole, authorities said.

Qi Jun Li of Rosemead suffered minor burns before he was pulled from his car, sheriff’s Lt. Margarito Robles said.

After he was treated for his burns, Li was booked on suspicion of attempted murder.

“He had some issues with the school or with students at the school,” said Robles, who did not know what those issues were.

Security guards spotted Li driving onto the campus about 12:45 and saw that the interior of his car was on fire. After it hit the pole, 40 feet from where the students were eating lunch, authorities found four five-gallon canisters of propane and four five-gallon canisters of gasoline, Robles said.
