From the traditional to the experimental, more than 250 student creations are on display at Pierce College’s Spring 2000 Art Show.

The show, which showcases such work as jewelry, ceramics, sculpture, drawing, painting and conceptual multimedia works, began Monday and will run through May 5.

An opening reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the art department gallery at the college.

The show features the work of more than 125 student artists--some tentatively trying art for the first time, others majoring in it.

“This year is an interesting show because we had more beginning students submitting work, in combination with the more advanced students,” said Amy Blount, faculty advisor and studio art instructor at Pierce. “It is wonderful to see how some students have evolved from awkward beginnings to doing beautiful work.”

The Pierce art gallery will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday. Special evening appointments can be made by calling (818) 719-6475.

Pierce College is located at 6201 Winnetka Avenue. Visitors are asked to park in Lot 6.
