COSTA MESA
The Mesa Consolidated Water District will give away 1,500 water-saving toilets Saturday.
For each flush, the toilets use only a quarter of the water of a regular toilet. According to water district estimates, an ultra-low-flush toilet would save a family 22,000 gallons of water a year.
The toilets usually cost more than $100, a water district spokeswoman said.
Prospective recipients must show a photo ID and old water bill.
Water district employees will hand out the toilets on a first-come, first-served basis from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Estancia High School, 2323 Placentia Ave. Old toilets must be returned to the same location from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 13.
