Ex-Councilwoman Replaces McMahan

Share

The City Council has voted to appoint former Councilwoman Linda Brewster to the remaining two years of Mayor Pro Tem Mike McMahan’s post.

McMahan resigned earlier this month because he and his wife are moving to Piru, where they inherited property. Tuesday was his last night on the council.

Brewster, 50, was accompanied by her husband at Tuesday’s announcement.

The council wanted an experienced leader to take McMahan’s place.

With four seats, including McMahan’s, up for vote on November’s ballot, the possibility exists that a novice majority could lead the city. Councilmen Roger Campbell and Scott Lee said they are not running again, and Mayor Evaristo Barajas faces reelection.

Later, the council members gave their parting thanks to McMahan for his decade of service.
