THE SAFETY ZONE: RESTAURANT REPORT

The environmental health division of Orange County’s Health Care Agency performs routine, unannounced inspections of the county’s more than 11,000 restaurants, markets and other food establishments. When conditions violate state law or applicable county and municipal codes, inspectors can issue notices of violation. If inspectors find during an announced recheck that conditions have not been corrected, they can effectively close the business by suspending its health permit. Health permits are reinstated as soon as the situation is corrected. Here is a rundown for March:

* Restaurant: NC Donuts, 12421 Haster St., Garden Grove.

Dates closed: March 2-17.

Reasons cited: Failure to comply with notice of violation.

* Restaurant: Yokohama Street, 10488 Valley View St., Buena Park.

Dates closed: March 2-4.

Reasons cited: Operating without a valid health permit.

* Restaurant: Miga Cafe, 13051 Kerry St., Garden Grove.

Dates closed: March 3-6.

Reasons cited: Operating without a valid health permit.

* Restaurant: Water Gourmet and Juice Bar, 3421 E. Chapman Ave., Orange.

Dates closed: March 6-7.

Reasons cited: No hot water.

* Restaurant: Arco Smog Pros No. 5453, 490 Pacific Coast Highway, Seal Beach.

Dates closed: March 6-8.

Reasons cited: Operating without a valid health permit. No hot water. No functional restrooms.

* Restaurant: La Fiesta Bakery, 1150 N. Harbor Blvd., Anaheim.

Dates closed: March 13-30.

Reasons cited: Noncompliance with a notice of violation.

* Restaurant: Holiday Inn/Ventana’s, 7000 Beach Blvd., Buena Park.

Dates closed: March 14. Reopened the same day.

Reasons cited: Facility contaminated by the discharge of fire suppression chemicals.
