Agoura Homers Twice in Final Inning to Defeat Royal

Chris Denove hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning and Agoura High rallied to defeat Royal, 7-5, in a Marmonte League game on Friday at Royal.

Agoura (7-12, 2-6 in league play) trailed, 5-4, before Brian Grant led off the seventh with a game-tying homer.

Royal loaded the bases with one in the seventh, but Brandon Canning came on in relief and got a popup and fly ball out to end the threat.

Grant finished with three hits. Denove had two hits and three runs batted in.

Birmingham 5, Los Angeles 1--Patrick Roark pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts and Graham Wintzer drove in two runs for the Patriots in the Birmingham tournament.

Joe Harper scored two runs for the Patriots (16-8).

Paraclete 10, Pasadena Marshall 0--John McMurtry (1-0) pitched a five-inning one-hitter with six strikeouts for the Spirits in an Alpha League game that was called because of the 10-run rule at Paraclete.

Matt Meyer had two triples and an RBI for the Spirits (5-12, 3-2).

Nordhoff 6, Santa Paula 4--Trevor Weedon hit a grand slam in the third inning and Scott Drew earned his third save for the Rangers (13-4, 8-1) in a Frontier League game at Nordhoff.

Joey Mele hit a solo home run and had two RBIs for Nordhoff (13-4, 8-1).

Oak Park 8, Fillmore 5--Matt Koller hit a three-run home run in the first inning and Ryan Duffy hit a grand slam in the sixth for the Eagles in a Tri-Valley League victory at Fillmore.

Evan Williams hit an RBI single for the Eagles (5-12, 3-4).

L.A. Baptist 4, Kilpatrick 3--Andrew Petersen slid home on a fielder’s choice to give the Knights an Alpha League victory at L.A. Baptist.

Brian Myer’s run-scoring double earlier in the inning tied the score for L.A. Baptist (12-4-1, 4-1).

Palmdale 14, Quartz Hill 1--Matt Harrington allowed two hits and struck out nine in four innings for the Falcons in a Golden League victory at Palmdale.

Tyrone Culver hit a home run, drove in three runs and had three stolen bases for Palmdale (16-4, 10-1).

Jason Parker hit a three-run double and had four RBIs.

Highland 4, Lancaster 2--Matt Parris pitched a four-hitter and had 11 strikeouts for the second consecutive start for the Bulldogs in a Golden League victory at Highland.

John Santor hit a two-run home run in the first for Highland (16-5, 8-3).

Burroughs 11, Valencia 9--Jesse Dominguez scored on a passed ball on a third strike and Spencer Steward hit a run-scoring single for the Indians with two out in the ninth of a Foothill League game at Valencia.

Chris Rippe of Valencia (14-7, 4-7) singled home the second run of the three-run seventh and later scored on an error to get the Vikings even, 9-9.

Tim Murphy hit a two-run double in the five-run second for Burroughs (13-9, 9-2), which clinched a playoff spot.

Canyon 10, Saugus 3--Josh Lagrotta hit a grand slam in the sixth inning and the Cowboys (11-5-1, 7-3-1) won a Foothill League game at Saugus.

Chris Seddon got a strikeout to work out of a bases-loaded jam with Canyon (11-5-1, 7-3-1) leading, 6-2, in the sixth.

Hart 14, Burbank 2--Matt Moore hit two home runs and the Indians hit five homers during an 11-run seventh in a Foothill League game at Burbank.

Moore finished with four hits and five RBIs for Hart (18-4, 10-1).

Village Christian 8, Lancaster Desert Christian 1--Sophomore Danny Bowman pitched a four-hitter, striking out four, in his first start and the Crusaders won a nonleague game at Desert Christian.

Jeremy Gonzalez had three hits and two RBIs for Village Christian (12-4).

Desert Christian (15-2) is ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section Division V poll.

Buckley 13, Oakwood 6--Colin Ward-Henninger had three singles and five RBIs for the Griffins (8-3, 4-2) in a Liberty League victory at Oakwood.

Providence 4, Avalon 2--Robert Cowan pitched a three-hitter and struck out six for the Pioneers (12-4, 3-2) in a Liberty League victory at Providence.

Simi Valley 8, Morningside 0--Chris Froelich (3-0) pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts for the Pioneers (13-8) in the Chino tournament.

Vasquez 18, Frazier Mountain 0--Nick Epper pitched a no-hitter and had six strikeouts in a High Desert League game called after five innings because of the 10-run rule at Frazier Mountain.

Epper had two doubles, a triple and four RBIs for Vasquez (14-3-1, 9-1).

Camarillo 10, Channel Islands 0--Geoff Buchanon had two doubles and two RBIs for the Scorpions in a Pacific View League game at Channel Islands.
