‘No Feeding’ Rule Is Best for Ducks

Share

* Re “No-Feeding Rule Ruffles the Feathers of Duck Fans,” July 30:

After reading your article regarding the death of 150 ducks at Fountain Valley’s Mile Square Regional Park, I felt sad.

I frequent the park enough to recognize a few ducks and often toss them a crumb or two.

I often see kids and their parents dump bags of corn tortillas, graham crackers and birthday cake chunks, complete with icing, into the pond water. I’ve seen people throw ice too.

It is no wonder why many of them are dying. The no-feeding rule feels a bit like grammar school, when your whole class has to miss recess because of the actions of a few, but it is absolutely necessary.
