SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Police are searching for two gunmen who reportedly beat and shot a 30-year-old record company deejay in his hillside home near Beverly Hills early Sunday morning, wounding him in the hip.

Others in the home were left unharmed, investigators said.

The man was expected to remain in the hospital overnight.

Police released no motive for the crime, have made no arrests and would not reveal the victim’s name.

Record company sources said the man works for a small, Studio City-based R&B; label known as Soul Life Records and goes by the name “Wiz.”

“It could have been a family dispute, it could have been a business dispute,” Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Craig Lally said. “The victim was very reluctant to give any information.”

Witnesses told police two armed men, one carrying a shotgun, stormed the home on the 9400 block of Cherokee Lane about 1:30 a.m. One man struck the victim with his gun and the other man fired his shotgun at the victim, hitting him in the hip.

The two suspects fled before police arrived at the home.

Witnesses ran from the house, screaming for help. A tow truck driver heard their cries and drove the victim to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he remained Sunday, police said.
