Report on Camarillo Health Care District

Share

Re “Close Camarillo Health District, Grand Jury Urges,” June 23.

A number of those who are beneficiaries of the superb services offered through the Camarillo Health Care District (CHCD) were deeply disturbed by the report and your article about it.

We attended the monthly board of directors meeting held just a few days after the article to voice our concern and support, hoping that there would be representatives of the press available to hear about the services not available anywhere else in the county by any other organization. No one has either reported our remarks or contacted us.

My husband is a victim of Alzheimer’s disease and I am terrified at the prospect of the loss of the Club Camarillo Program, which has brought him out of the depths of depression and solitude into an enthusiasm for each new day. A primary reason that we live and pay taxes in this city and this county is the existence of the programs and services of the Camarillo Health Care District.

It is beyond my understanding why the grand jury would waste time and money doing a second investigation two years after a similar study reached positive conclusions. I, for one, would much prefer that my property taxes be expended on the worthwhile activities provided by CHCD.

Please talk to those who partake of the services of the district and publicize the positives offered to those who have looked long and hard for help any and elsewhere. You will find that these are not duplicate services, and this community would be hard-pressed to find more “bang for its bucks!”
