Bloomberg News

EMachines Inc., the fifth-largest maker of personal computers in the country, said Wednesday that it has made a deal to sell its computers in Europe for the first time.

The Irvine company’s PCs will be sold by Dixons, Britain’s largest electronics retailer, which has 850 stores in Britain, Ireland, Scandinavia, Spain and Portugal.

EMachines sells PCs cheaply, trying to increase profits by selling the rights to software and Internet companies to preload their software or sites on the computers.

Dixons owns a majority of Freeserve, Britain’s largest Internet service provider, but has announced plans to sell it.

EMachines’ stock closed at $2.19, up 9 cents a share, in Nasdaq trading.
