Sheriff’s Workshop Targets Parents
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department is offering a free 10-week program in September aimed at helping parents talk with their children.
The annual workshop, co-sponsored by the Conejo Recreation and Park District, is accepting registrations. Classes will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Sept. 13 at Conejo Community Park, 1300 Hendrix Ave., and are for adults only.
Authorities hope to help build better parent-child relationships, according to Senior Deputy Lee Morris, one of the officers who will be conducting the course.
Officers will try to help parents identify and stop drug use and gang involvement before behavior spirals out of control, Morris said. Other issues to be addressed will be poor academic performance, sex, truancy and suicide threats, Morris said.
“When parents have out-of-control or strong-willed children, it’s very difficult to maintain the rules within the home,” he said.
