YORBA LINDA

The city may break away from its plans to build a bridge over the railroad tracks and shift to an underground railway channel instead.

City officials will use a $125,000 grant from the Orange County Transportation Authority to study the possibility of extending Placentia’s railroad-lowering project into Yorba Linda.

Last year, the four-member City Council was split on whether to build the proposed overpass at Imperial Highway and Esperanza Avenue. Councilmen Henry W. Wedaa and Mark Schwing were against the plan, speaking out in favor of lowering the tracks into a channel instead. Council members Barbara W. Kiley and John M. Gullixson supported construction of the bridge.

The study, authorized this month, will identify costs and other issues involved in lowering the tracks at Imperial Highway.
