Police arrested a man suspected of drunk driving Thursday morning after he led them on a chase through a neighborhood for more than an hour.

Raul Sonora, 21, of Van Nuys, was due to be booked on suspicion of felony drunk driving, assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest after he received medical treatment. Police wouldn’t say if he suffered any injuries during his arrest.

The pursuit began about 8 a.m. at the intersection of Ventura Boulevard and Wilbur Avenue in Tarzana when police approached the suspect’s red Honda Accord. “He was drinking beer right in front of officers,” said Sgt. Jeff Bender of the Los Angeles Police Department. “When he saw officers he just sped away. He just didn’t want to stop.”

Police followed Sonora through a maze of streets, ending in Van Nuys. Several times during the chase, which was broadcast on local television stations, the driver stopped and put the car in reverse.
