Courthouse to Close in Efficiency Move
The Calabasas Courthouse will close permanently Sept. 29.
After the shutdown, residents of the court’s Northwest District, which includes all Los Angeles County communities north of Mulholland Drive, will be directed to the courthouse in Van Nuys, court officials said.

Court district--A story Sunday on the closing of the Calabasas Courthouse incorrectly defined the Northwest District of the Los Angeles County Superior Court. The district includes communities in the southwest San Fernando Valley, as well as Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Agoura Hills and Westlake Village. Those residents will be directed to the Van Nuys Courthouse after the Calabasas facility closes on Sept. 29.
The closure is part of a general move toward greater efficiency by the Los Angeles County Superior Court system, said Ann Madden, acting trial court administrator.
Residents of the west San Fernando Valley will also be able to use a new courthouse in Chatsworth, expected to open in 2001.
Additionally, residents may use an interactive telephone system that will allow them to handle citations by phone, Madden said.
The Calabasas Courthouse will continue to handle traffic citations and some civil cases until it closes next month.
“The transfer of the caseload should be gradual and invisible to the public,” Madden said.
“They shouldn’t notice any difference.”
