Firestone Tire Recall

Share

* Re “Firestone Begins Replacement of 6.4 Million Tires,” Aug. 10: I, for one, am not willing to wait a year to replace my faulty Firestone tires, so I made an appointment with my Ford dealer last week and had all four tires on my Ford Explorer replaced at my cost.

How can Firestone expect people to risk their lives while waiting an entire year for replacement tires? I kept the Firestone tires and expect that Firestone should refund my money on those four tires. Will my letter from Firestone include this option?

Everyone now knows it is a potential accident situation to operate a vehicle with the Firestone ATX-type tires. Wouldn’t it be prudent for all operators with such tires to not drive their SUVs until the tires can be replaced? Six million tires--that’s a little over 1 million SUVs not on the road! Oh joy, oh visibility, oh no fear of being crushed by one of those urban tanks! (To say nothing of any lawsuits that might come up after the recall announcement.)
