Postponed Wedding

Share

* With the stroke of Bill Clinton’s pen, my fiancee and I will once again put off our wedding plans. Those who say marital status shouldn’t have an effect on the tax system are right. If we were to marry, it would cost us nearly $1,200 per year. So we remain unmarried and file singly.

Perhaps this veto is one more blow to the institution of marriage. Perhaps President Clinton privately hopes for this institution’s demise--after all, he has found marriage inconvenient and problematic in his own life.
