Eight people will run for three open seats on the Festival of Arts Board of Directors in the nonprofit organization’s annual fall election.

The festival will send out ballots to its 2,700 voting members at the end of September, said Sharbie Higuchi, a festival spokeswoman.

The ballot collection period will close Nov. 14, and winners will be announced at the board’s Nov. 21 meeting, she said. The election’s filing period closed Friday.

Those who are running are incumbent Phillip Freeman and challengers Harry Bithell, Scott Moore, Ronald T. Perrella, Linda Potichke, Bruce Eliott Rasner, Kerry Smith and David Young, who recently resigned from the board in protest of its lease negotiations with San Clemente.

A recall election, which is expected to take place by the end of September, could free up six additional seats.
