Psychologist Agrees to Give Up License
A Chatsworth psychologist surrendered her medical license on Wednesday as state regulators investigated a 1998 battery conviction, authorities said.
Sue Collins, 47, whose office is on Topanga Canyon Boulevard, stipulated to the license surrender, said Tom O’Connor, executive officer of the Department of Consumer Affairs’ Board of Psychology, the state agency that issues the licenses.
Although Collins was convicted in 1998 for striking an acquaintance, the state board conducted its own investigation, O’Connor said.
The agency filed an accusation in March against Collins alleging the same battery charge she faced in criminal court and that she used “alcohol to a dangerous extent.”
She surrendered her license before the investigation concluded and, in doing so, neither admitted nor denied the charges, O’Connor said. Collins couldn’t be reached for comment late Wednesday.
Collins, who received her license in 1995, will be able to petition for reinstatement in a year, O’Connor said. If she receives a new license, she will have to reimburse the state board $7,000 for investigation-related costs.
