A 41-year-old Northern California woman, traveling home from vacation with her family, died early Friday after her husband fell asleep at the wheel and crashed on California 126 near Wells Road, California Highway Patrol said.

Susan Davin of Marysville was in the backseat of the Mitsubishi Montero. Her husband, Brian Davin Sr., 41, was in the front with their 17-year-old son Brian Davin Jr.

Authorities said Davin fell asleep about 2:35 a.m. while driving eastbound past Wells Road. The vehicle drifted off the shoulder and rolled down an embankment.

Susan Davin, who was asleep in the back seat and not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the car and hit the side of the embankment, authorities said.

When Highway Patrol officers arrived, she was complaining of pain, but stopped breathing shortly after paramedics arrived. She died later at Santa Paula Hospital.

Davin’s husband and son, who were wearing seat belts, were treated for minor cuts and scrapes, according to authorities.
