Third baseman Mike Berry is making the most of his second chance.

Berry, 30, was released by the Dodgers during spring training and spent much of the season with Newark, an independent team in the Atlantic League. He hit .290 with four home runs and drove in 37 runs.

The Dodgers re-signed Berry on July 31 and assigned him to double-A San Antonio.

Berry, a .292 hitter during seven seasons in the minor leagues, had hits in 10 of his first 11 games with the Missions. That included an eight-game hitting streak in which he was 18 for 45 with four doubles and drove in seven runs.

Pitcher Nial Hughes is unbeaten in his last six starts, going 5-0 with a 1.59 earned-run average for Class-A Yakima. The 22-year-old right-hander is 5-1 with a 2.50 ERA this season. He was 8-1 with a 4.05 ERA with Yakima last season.
