The City Council will meet tonight to discuss whether to install four-way stop signs or other speed deterrents to slow traffic along Francis Avenue between Harbor Boulevard and Palm Street.

The city’s Traffic Staff Committee is recommending an increase in police presence along Francis Avenue, in lieu of stop signs, to counter fast-moving traffic. Police could use mobile radar units and periodic selective enforcement of residential speed limits to keep drivers in check, traffic officials said.

City traffic officials are also suggesting that signs warning of dips in the road be placed along Francis Avenue at the intersections of Bedford, Dexter and Juanita streets.
