“Any time you’re in a freeway accident involving that kind of speed things are going to be pretty tough,” Ventura County Fire Capt. Bob Myers said.

A man and a teenage boy and girl were taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. The man’s injuries were described as serious but Myers said the children were alert and talking when paramedics arrived at the scene.

The names of the victims were not immediately available but Myers said they may have been a family from Thousand Oaks.

According to a CHP dispatcher, the driver of the car, who may have been the man, lost control and struck the center divider. The car came to rest upside-down in the fast lane, according to the CHP.

Authorities were investigating whether speed was a factor or if another car may have been involved.

The crash forced the closure of the fast lane for more than an hour.
