Conservancy to Host Open Space Event

The Ojai Valley Land Conservancy will hold its fifth annual Open Space Celebration on Sept. 9.
Proceeds will go to cover operating costs for the nonprofit group, said Executive Director Jim Engel.
The annual celebration, which is usually held in a private home, will move this year to the historic 25-acre Besant Meadow, for which the group is raising money.
The meadow is east of Lomita Avenue, between Meiners Oaks Elementary School and the Ranch House restaurant, near the conservancy’s Ojai Meadows Preserve. The group has $35,000 more to raise in the $660,000 Besant Meadow campaign, Engel said.
Dinner will be provided by Joan Vogel, known for her “Ojai Cook” specialty food line, and amateur cook Joan Roberts, known to conservancy members for her gourmet vegetarian meals.
Ojai-based musicians who performed on the “Sweet Reality” CD will provide entertainment, and participants can take walking tours of the meadow, Engel said.
A silent auction will include stays at Yosemite National Park and a private home in Orcas Island in the Puget Sound, Engel said.
