Disney’s Rocket Rods Ride to Be Closed for Maintenance

The Rocket Rods, a glitch-prone Disneyland ride once heavily promoted at the revamped Tomorrowland two years ago, will be closed for maintenance soon after the Labor Day weekend, a company spokesman said Tuesday.

The ride is scheduled for routine seasonal repairs, said Disneyland spokesman Ray Gomez. He said the company puts major attractions through the process at least every two years.

But Gomez said neither a date nor a length of closure has been decided yet for Rocket Rods.

“It depends upon the scope of work being done,” Gomez said. Past repairs on various attractions have ranged from several days to more than a year, he said.

Only months after being launched in 1998--during the prime tourist season--the dragster-style Rocket Rods was put out of commission for three months with mechanical and software problems.
