Public to Discuss New Library Plans
The first public meeting will be held tonight to discuss plans for thenew Northridge Branch Library, which will more than double its current size.
Architects from Tetra Design will present preliminary drawings for the new 12,500-square-foot library, showing various locations for the main building, entranceand parking lot, said Juliana Cheng, senior management analyst for the city’s library facilities division.
The existing 6,000-square-foot library will shut its doors about a month before construction begins in early 2002 to prepare for demolition. Cheng said library officials have not determined what interim services will be provided for patrons during the 1 1/2-year construction.
“We’ve been putting mobile trailers at some locations because we don’t have that many bookmobiles, but nothing has been decided for Northridge,” said Cheng. “We’ll be looking at neighboring libraries to see who will be up and who will be down.”
The $3-million project is one of 12 in the San Fernando Valley funded by Proposition DD, a 1998 library bond issue.
The meeting will start at 7 p.m. at the library, 9051 Darby Ave.
